Substance abuse and psychosis. The strange case of opioids

摘要: BACKGROUND: Psychoses corre - lated with substance abuse prove to be more common in cases involving cannabinoids, stimu lants, hallucinogens, alcohol and polyabuse. Among abusers, it has not been ascer tained whether opioids have a psychotic effect. OBJECTIVES: Theaimofthisreviewistoinves tigate whether, among substances of abuse, distinction can drawn between pro-psychotic anti-psychotic agents on the basis re lationship these psy chosis. METHODS: Studies were identified by search ing through multiple literature databases, cluding PubMed, Scopus, Web Knowledge. Hand searches reference lists rele vant reviews used complement com puter searches. RESULTS: Looking at relationships linking psychosis, distinc tion can, fact, pro-psychot ic substances. Even if there are no differences addictive processes volved, opiates only sedative drugs that possess an CONCLUSIONS: The whole topic opiate ag onism merits is due for reconsideration: anticraving action agonism, but also its effectiveness psychopatho logical level qualifies as viewed powerful tool treating mental illness.
