Client knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding zoonoses: a metropolitan experience

摘要: Objective To assess knowledge, attitudes and practices in relation to zoonoses among pet owners. Methods Questionnaire completed by 81 clients attending a small animal practice Sydney, Australia. Results Most (64.5%) reported that they were not concerned about contracting disease from their pet, but 7.9% 3.9% of little or very concerned, respectively; 23.7% stated had considered the possibility. Although respondents indicated heard number zoonoses, knowledge sources exposure pathways was generally low, particularly for more important Australia such as toxoplasmosis, psittacosis Q fever. Only 37.0%, 12.3% 11.1%, respectively, these diseases. Most (84.1%) viewed veterinarians having primary responsibility providing information yet less than half (48.1%) recalled ever getting veterinarian. Likewise, many medical professionals played role one-quarter (23.5%) doctor. Conclusion The low level owners indicates need strengthen communication between veterinarians, doctors around possible risks appropriate prevention strategies.
