Perceived barriers and facilitators to mental health help-seeking in young people: a systematic review

摘要: Adolescents and young adults frequently experience mental disorders, yet tend not to seek help. This systematic review aims summarise reported barriers facilitators of help-seeking in people using both qualitative research from surveys, focus groups, interviews quantitative data published surveys. It extends previous reviews through its methodology by the inclusion studies describing what themselves perceive are for common health problems. Twenty two perceived or adolescents were identified searches PubMed, PsycInfo, Cochrane database. A thematic analysis was undertaken on results literature literature. Fifteen seven identified. Young stigma embarrassment, problems recognising symptoms (poor literacy), a preference self-reliance as most important help-seeking. Facilitators comparatively under-researched. However, there evidence that positive past experiences, social support encouragement others aids process. Strategies improving should literacy, reducing stigma, taking into account desire self-reliance.
