摘要: After many years of basic research we have now begun to learn how manipulate the serotonergic mechanisms within gut. This has lead a number significant advances including 5HT3 antagonists for treatment functional diarrhoea, 5HT4 agonists constipation and 5HT1 impaired fundal relaxation. Initial enthusiasm been somewhat dented by withdrawal alosetron because ischaemic colitis, but it remains be seen whether this adverse event will with other antagonists. Finally should recognized that, in substantial proportion patients attending clinics complaining symptoms, anxiety is major component. The drugs so far described are large devoid CNS effects. It possible therefore that drug which combines both peripheral central effects would likely beneficial.
