摘要: In the United States, 1.2 million workers are exposed to metalworking fluids. During operations, aerosols produced and airborne contaminants can be inhaled. Although biocides used control bacterial content of fluids, they create health-related problems, their efficiency remains proved. The objectives this project were (1) verify whether rigorous cleaning according a standard protocol could reduce microbial contamination (2) use with different spectra population. Four similar machines producing components evaluated; specific treatment was applied each machine. machine as thoroughly cleaned prior sampling, did not undergo any major afterward, (3) operated without biocide. A is described recommended by fluid manufacturer performed on three other machines, two which subsequently treated weekly. Fluid samples from four lathes collected weekly during 6-month period, total cultivable Gram-negative bacteria analyzed for sample. Major (120-4) significantly concentration in cutting fluids when compared (120-3), had undergone cleaning. concentrations 10(6) CFU/mL range these lathes; however, reduction number changes observed Bacterial flora controlled biocides. Bacteria 10(3)-10(5) Since thorough insufficient recognized being responsible some worker health avenues controlling should evaluated exposure contaminants.
