摘要: Summary In this paper, we will consider employment protection, a determinant of absenteeism that has not yet found attention in the literature. When absence behavior affects workers’ risk being fired, economic theory suggests should increase with level protection enjoyed by workers. We provide theoretical model and propose three case studies to investigate relevance firing for behavior. The first looks at public-sector workers Germany. After accumulating 15 years tenure reaching age 40, they can only be fired after severe personal misconduct. Workers covered are absent significantly more frequently than others. our second study, analyze Italian whose varies size their firm. find significant differences employee firm size. third investigates newly hired one single around change against which occurs end probation period: increases as soon is granted. Although none would enough draw conclusions alone, jointly suggest plays role explaining conclude discussion policy implications finding.
