摘要: A new seismic profiling system consisting of a hydroacoustic transducer with correlation receiver has yielded detailed profile the outer continental margin off New England. The shows evidence Cenozoic sedimentation and shallow geologic structure. Two major reflectors are tenatively identified as Early Tertiary Pliocene-Pleistocene in age. former is erosional part, showing sea cliff at edge shelf. This demonstrates an 850-meter subsidence region since time. Late sediments general evenly bedded, sheet-like strata sharp contrast to Pleistocene wedge-like bottomset beds Block delta formed during glacial lowering level. shelf shoreline have migrated northward because sediment supply not been sufficient build up slope compensate for relative regional subsidence.
