Electron Spin Resonance and Optical Absorption Studies of Cr3+ in a Phosphate Glass

摘要: Optical absorption and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of a chromium‐doped phosphate glass have been studied as function Cr2O3 concentration. While the optical spectrum appears to be independent chromium‐ion density, ESR exhibits pronounced concentration dependence. The attributed combination isolated, octahedrally coordinated Cr3+ antiferromagnetically coupled pairs ions which are individually sixfold coordinated. measured value crystal‐field parameter Δ is 14 500 cm−1. data analyzed within framework spin‐Hamiltonian formalism. In case isolated it estimated that axial field | D lies in range 0.15 0.5 assumption relatively strong isotropic exchange interaction adequate describe gross features pair spectrum. Speculative models for structure neighborhood an ion presented.
