The increased in developed countries last decades has been attributed to increasing travel tropical destinations combination with enormous influx immigrants. At present, immigrants visiting friends and relatives (VFRs) constitute most significant group travellers for importation countries, sub-Saharan Africa carrying highest risk. VFRs typically demonstrate behavioural patterns which render them at high risk acquisition this largely preventable infection. Pre-travel services are rarely sought by VFRs, whereas misconceptions that they possess life-long immunity against make less likely receive or adhere antimalarial chemoprophylaxis recommendations.
