摘要: Origami is making an impact in engineering as solutions to problems are being found by applying origami principles (eg. flat-foldability) and using specific crease patterns inspiration. This thesis presents in-depth analysis of a particular fold  – the waterbomb base facilitate its use future problems. The watebomb interest due familiarity community, simple topology (can be made folding single sheet paper four times), scalability, generalizability, interesting kinetic behavior. It can behave nonlinear spring well one- or two-way bistable mechanism. models behavior traditional some non-traditional variants used tools development waterbomb-base-inspired mechanisms. In all cases considered here, developability rotational symmetry both geometry motion mechanisms assumed. provides introduction reviews ways which it has been studied applied fields. also presented with practical application potential. Models for introduced potential usefulness testbed actuation methods discussed. developed kinematic behavior, including forces needed transition between stable states. These validated comparison physical prototype testing finite element analysis. introduces generalized (WB) split-fold (SFWB). WB maintains pattern alternating mountain valley folds around vertex but this case any even number greater than equal 6 allowed. An SFWB created splitting each into two “half folds”, effectively doubling links halving deflection at fold. same that were few applications
