摘要: Abstract To investigate the potential use of stable isotope composition vegetative cysts photosynthetic dinoflagellate Thoracosphaera heimii for quantitative palaeotemperature reconstructions a method has been developed to purify T. from sediment samples. Stable oxygen and carbon isotopes have measured on 21 surface samples equatorial Atlantic South Oceans. Calculated temperatures based equation inorganic calcite precipitation generally reflect mean annual upper water column, notably thermocline depths. Although present results suggest that isotopic shells might be formed in equilibrium with seawater which are being formed, future investigations required determine possible effects metabolic kinetic processes fractionation process. This pilot study therefore forms basis development this tool determination species-specific equation. The wide geographic stratigraphic distribution sediments, position within column high resistance its against dissolution underline usability reconstructions.
