摘要: Background Interventions have been designed to reduce the prevalence of smoking in college/university students. This review presents a summary and synthesis interventions published English from 1980 present. Methods Seven databases were searched for relevant articles, reference lists examined additional studies. The studies categorized as (1) individual approaches, such on-campus cessation programs, (2) institutional smoke-free policies. by type institution geographic location, study design, sample demographics, outcomes. Results Fourteen identified; only five received "satisfactory" rating based on evaluation criteria. Most convenience samples, conducted 4-year institutions. used comparison groups, three multi-institutional. Individual approaches included educational group sessions and/or counseling that campus mostly healthcare personnel. None nicotine replacement or other medications cessation. quit rates both smokeless tobacco cigarette users varied, depending definitions duration follow-up contact. Institutional focused mainly restrictions, policies, antitobacco messages, pricing. indicated can positive influence student behavior, specifically reducing use (i.e., products, amount smoked) among college students, increasing acceptability policies restrictions nonusers. Conclusions While some promising results noted, rigorous evaluations wider range programs are needed, along with address cultural ethnic diversity campuses.
