Principal Components Analysis of the Hypomanic Attitudes and Positive Predictions Inventory and Associations with Measures of Personality, Cognitive Style and Analogue Symptoms in a Student Sample

摘要: Background: An integrative cognitive model proposed that ascribing extreme personal appraisals to changes in internal state is key the development of symptoms bipolar disorder. The Hypomanic Attitudes and Positive Predictions Inventory (HAPPI) was developed measure these appraisals. Aims: aim current study validate an expanded 61-item version HAPPI. Method: In a largely female student sample (N = 134), principal components analysis (PCA) performed on Associations between HAPPI analogue after 3 months were examined. Results: PCA revealed six categories belief: Self Activation, Self-and-Other Critical, Catastrophic, Extreme Appraisals Social Approval, Agitation, Loss Control. predicted all measures hypomanic when controlling for baseline symptoms. more stringent test incorporating other psychological measures, independently associated only with activation (e.g. thoughts racing) at months. Dependent dysfunctional attitudes greater conflict irritability), depression reduced well-being, personality self-reported diagnostic symptoms, behavioural dysregulation depression. Conclusions: beliefs about states show modest independent association prospective alongside factors. Further work will be required improve factor structure its validity clinical samples.
