Fostering excellence: development of a course to prepare graduate students for research on migration and health

摘要: Canada is an immigrant-receiving nation and many graduate students in nursing other disciplines pursue immigrant health research. As these often start with inadequate understanding of the policy, theoretical, research contexts which their work should be situated, we became concerned that theses dissertations were less sophisticated than both possible desirable. This led to development a PhD-level course titled Migration Health Canadian Context. In this study, provide analytic overview including description, objectives, assignments, specific class topics. Areas focus include historical theoretical considerations; determinants health; refugee cultural competence safety; challenges, approaches, skills; policy-relevant research; educational imperatives related disciplines. Salient introduced each classes. While main focus, comparative data are provided there relevance for nurse-researchers countries.
