摘要: The ability to measure intercostal muscle blood flow in humans has implications for understanding distribution patterns and circulatory regulation during exercise. Accordingly, the advantage of performing actual measurements is that it provides an insight into “blood competition” theory, based on which proposed respiratory muscles compete with locomotor available flow. Until very recently was impossible exercise owing several difficulties. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) combined indocyanine green dye (ICG) a new valid minimally invasive technique measuring allowing continuous variable frequency data collection. On basis tracer principles mass conservation, NIRS–ICG makes possible quantify because rate accumulation ICG given tissue reflects perfusion specified interest. Respiratory by primarily reflect internal external only lesser extent costal part diaphragm. However, while diaphragm acts as primary generator exercise, role also important they develop necessary pressure move rib cage. This chapter focuses measured healthy individuals patients chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who often experience greater work breathing than subjects both at rest
