Later Life Moves and Movers in Germany: An Expanded Typology

摘要: In times of ageing baby boomer cohorts and increasing regional disparities, residential choice in later life is important regarding family relations the provision social services. this study, a new typology moves developed based on observed patterns characteristics changes. For purpose, German Socio-Economic Panel data has been linked to uniquely detailed neighbourhood information study how aspects both movers are structured. The results suggest four types moves, namely: improvement, family, adaptation care moves. expands rigid classifications age, health status or distance moved, highlights intergenerational ties, housing concerns fragmented forms partnership as key aspects. Family one’s children associated with existence grandchildren, showing that elderly people take roles care-takers care-providers. consequences being widowed divorced socially stratified can lead economic instability.
