摘要: The continental shelf is the platform for many of the planet’s most productive ecosystems but it exposed to high disturbance. At high latitudes, massive grounded ice sheets have extended and retreated during glaciations whilst at lower latitudes sea level changes alternately emerse as land or deepen below euphotic zone. magnitude, frequency mode disturbances differ around planet in this chapter we describe these Antarctic region, where icebergs and highest wind speeds wave heights in the world result communities a continuous cycle of disturbance recolonization. Concepts disturbance, colonization early development succession have been source considerable interest to ecologists more than century now, with increasing realisation that world’s coastal areas are facing unprecedented accelerating anthropogenic threats (Jackson et al.,2001) concepts assumed new importance.
