摘要: Background: the issue of diagnostic disclosure in dementia has been debated extensively professional journals, but empirical data concerning not previously systematically reviewed. Objective: to review regarding dementia. Methods: five electronic databases were searched up September 2003 (Medline, Embase, Cinahl, Sociological Abstracts, Web Science). Additional references identified through hand searches selected journals and bibliographies relevant articles books. The title abstract each paper reviewed independently by two reviewers against pre-determined inclusion criteria: original about presented was English. Any disagreements resolved discussion until consensus reached. Data extracted using a structured abstraction form. quality formally assessed although study critically terms methodology, sampling criteria, response rates appropriateness analysis. Results: fifty-nine papers met criteria for detailed review. Many studies had methodological shortcomings. reported wide variability all areas beliefs attitudes practice. Studies impact indicate both negative positive consequences people with their carers. Conclusions: existing evidence is inconsistent limited perspectives being largely neglected. This state knowledge seems at variance current guidance
