摘要: Self-incompatibility (SI)--intraspecific pollen recognition systems that allow plants to avoid inbreeding--in the Solanaceae (the nightshade family) is controlled by a polymorphic S locus where "self" rejected on pistils with matching alleles. In contrast, unilateral interspecific incompatibility (UI) prevents hybridization between related species, most commonly when donor self-compatible (SC) and recipient SI. We observed in Solanum, pollen-expressed Cullin1 gene high similarity Petunia SI factors interacts genetically at or near control UI. Cultivated tomato red- orange-fruited species (all SC) exhibit same loss-of-function mutation this gene, whereas green-fruited (mostly SI) contain functional allele; hence, similar biochemical mechanisms underlie rejection of both pollen.
