摘要: Video-excerpts from routine oncology interviews are examined to reveal how patients demonstrate and doctors respond "fears" about cancer. Vocally visually, embodied impacts of dealing with dreaded consequences cancer apparent when addressing both good potentially bad news. Even a "brush" can promote negative ongoing provoking unresolved illness dilemmas. We how, in the midst extending answers initiating concerns, exhibit trepidations volunteering narrative information their medical history experience symptoms. In response, shown acknowledge yet minimal receptiveness patients' lifeworld disclosures demonstrations (e.g., redirecting attention away concerns by offering "textbook" symptoms related pursuits biomedical agendas). Discussion focuses on interactional criteria for identifying "fears", lay orientations visits, implications refining educational workshops oncologists.
