In search of D-σ-A molecular rectifiers: the D-σ-A system derived from triptycenequinone and tetrathiafulvalene

摘要: Abstract Several D-σ-A compounds (4a, 4b, 6a, and 6b) have been synthesized, which contain a sterically hindered quinone tethered by tetramethylene chain to substituted tetrathiafulvalene (TTF). Compounds 6a 6b show dramatic increase (≈450 mV) in the oxidation potential of dipyrrolo-TTF unit, suggestive considerable electron withdrawal through σ bridge. Monolayers 4b are metastable at air–water interface.
