摘要: Abstract. Time and mode of herbivory on savanna trees their subsequent responses are dependent on, among other things, earlier fire. We used clipping (simulated browsing) stem cutting heavy browsing to some extent simulated fire) evaluate such interactions. Study organisms were a deciduous, broad-leaved tree species, Combretum apiculatum (Combretaceae), large herbivores leaf-eating insects. The treatments done in the late dry season before bud break. Late following wet season, we recorded plant treatment browsing. treated trees, especially cut ones, responded by producing larger fewer annual shoots. Compared control there was slight increase shoot biomass clipped strong reduction ones. Leaf area increased but decreased A marked number browsed amongst trees. Number bites, consumption utilization also with severity treatment. In contrast, insect reduced both observed patterns discussed relation current ideas - herbivore
