摘要: Cancer is a global burden that has prompted extensive research into prevention and treatment, over many decades. Scientific studies have shown subset of cells within tumour, known as cancer stem (CSCs), are responsible for tumourigenesis, metastasis, drug resistance, recurrences. CSCs characteristic features enhanced self-renewal, proliferation, limited but multidirectional differentiation capacity. The discovery initiated novel treatment regimes. Evidence indicates resistant to conventional chemo- radiation therapy leading failures, secondary formation, relapse. Because the observed phenomena in course prognosis, need modalities targeting important. Photodynamic (PDT) clinically approved, minimally invasive, therapeutic procedure can exert selective cytotoxic activity toward cancerous while reducing toxicity normal cells. It uses photosensitizer (PS) becomes excited when subjected light at specific wavelength, PS forms reactive oxygen species (ROS) killing malignant Currently, PDT being investigated target by addition carrier molecules antibody conjugates bound PS. Targeted (TPDT) may be able not only eradicate tumour mass kill well.
