摘要: BACKGROUND: The psychiatry literature routinely quotes a lifetime schizophrenia suicide prevalence of 10% based on 1 meta-analysis and 2 studies chronic schizophrenics. OBJECTIVES: To build methodology for extrapolating estimates from published cohorts to apply this approach that meet inclusion criteria. DATA SOURCES: We began with MEDLINE search (1966-present) articles observed schizophrenic patients. Exhaustive bibliography searching each identified article brought the total number reviewed 632. STUDY SELECTION: Studies included in cohort patients at least years, 90% follow-up, reported suicides. Articles are excluded systematic age bias (ie, adolescents). EXTRACTION: Extracted data sample size, deaths, suicides, percentage diagnostic system used. Data were extracted independently by us, differences resolved consensus after re-review. SYNTHESIS: divided into groups: 32 schizophrenics enrolled various illness points (25 578 subjects) 29 either onset or first admission (22 598 subjects). Regression models intersection proportionate mortality (the dead who died suicide) case fatality used calculate risk group. estimate those was 5.6% (95% confidence interval, 3.7%-8.5%). Mixed samples showed rate 1.8% 1.4%-2.3%). Case rates no significant when diagnosed use newer systems compared under older CONCLUSION: This study 4.9% will commit during their lifetimes, usually near onset.
