Does Race Matter in Addressing Homelessness? A Review of the Literature

摘要: Since the 1980s, black persons have been overrepresented in United States homeless population. Given that morbidity and mortality is elevated among both population comparison to general U.S. population, this overrepresentation has important implications for health policy. However, racial demographics of homelessness received little attention from policymakers. This article reviews published social behavioral science literature addresses relationship between race contemporary States. points substantial differences subgroups vulnerabilities, risks, behaviors, service outcomes. Such observed suggest policies programs prevent end must explicitly consider as a factor order be maximum effectiveness. The limited scope these findings also suggests more research needed better understand their implications.
