摘要: A 4450-year sequence of varves, spanning the entire Neoglacialinterval, has been recovered from Hector Lake, Alberta. The varve record is compared to records regional glacial history toevaluate therelationship between alpine activity and sediment production. Glacial controls on production vary with timescale considered. Long-term variations in sedimentation rate, centuries millennial duration, reflect changes ice extent same timescale. Superimposed these long-term decadal-scale variability that complexly related upvalley extent. Over short term, high rates may be associated glacier maximum stands, or periods advance recession. Overthe last millennium at least, highest appear have transitional periods, preceding post-dating rather than times
