摘要: Background and Objectives Although various surveys have tracked the prevalence of anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) use in American teenagers young adults, no recent assessed lifetime AAS Americans overall. We therefore analyzed serial youth-survey data to derive estimates current general population. Methods We first determined distribution age onset use, based on pooled from nine studies. Using this distribution, we then developed equations project eventual among survey respondents, once they aged completed period risk for initiating AAS. similarly calculated denominator lifetimes total population. next applied these four independent national youth datasets general-population use. Finally, using 10 studies, estimated dependence users. Results Age-of-onset studies consistently showed that begins later than most drugs, with only 22% users (95% confidence interval: 19–25%) starting before 20. Applying age-of-onset findings datasets, currently 13–50 years, 2.9–4.0 million used Within group, roughly 1 may experienced dependence. Conclusions Scientific Significance Although subject limitations, our estimation techniques suggest a surprisinigly high Americans. (Am J Addict 2014;23:371–377)
