摘要: Abstract Background: There have been no recent assessments of the economic burden sinusitis in peer-reviewed literature. Objective: We sought to estimate 1996 total direct health care expenditures for treatment sinusitis. Methods: This study determined (1) medical and surgical encounters which was primary diagnosis (2) attributable when related airway diseases were a comorbid condition. An expert panel used Delphi consensus-building technique determine proportions latter. Results: Overall estimated at $5.8 billion, $1.8 billion (30.6%) children 12 years or younger. A acute chronic accounted 58.7% all ($3.5 billion). About 12% each costs asthma otitis media eustachian tube disorders attributed Nearly 90% ($5.1 billion) associated with ambulatory emergency department services.
