摘要: This paper estimates the effect of trade liberalisation on import performance selected Latin American countries. The novelty this study is that it applies a long-term approach covering whole XX century using times series and panel data analyses. empirical exercise shows relationship between tariffs growth in America cannot be taken for granted - as often happens – anyway not always quantitatively substantial. In particular, our analysis existence long run imports only from second half century. It follows appears effective fostering America’s when integrated within wider process, implying multilateral negotiated to policy. sense, regional agreements (e.g. Mercosur) appear have played key role through tariff reduction but remarkably thanks creation rule-based system governing global relations. result would confirm thesis those who endorse formalized trading guarantee liberalization foster growth.
