摘要: The objective of this study was to evaluate if extraction broken feathers outside the molting period an efficient method induce growth new flight as part rehabilitation process raptors with damaged plumage. Primaries, secondaries, and rectrices (four each) were removed under general anesthesia from 10 American kestrels (Falco sparverius) using two different protocols: without filling follicle bismuth subnitrate (Orbeseal) prevent it sealing. Birds kept in large aviaries natural daylight outdoor temperatures. Rate quality assessed regularly for 4 mo. Results significantly between types feathers: 100% rectrices, 58% 8% primaries started grow within winter months, 95% 30% 0% completed their normally period. use Orbeseal did not improve outcome. tail began second third weeks at about 2.7 mm/day, 7 wk. Rate, starting time, duration remigial less predictable varied widely among individuals. Although exact impact these extractions on molt is still unclear, most that plucked during failed regrow following molt. In conclusion, plucking can successfully decrease rehabilitation. However, procedure would be recommended wing feathers.
