摘要: Chemotherapy can cause immunosuppression, which may trigger latent intestinal parasitic infections in stools to emerge. This study investigated whether parasites emerge as opportunistic breast and colorectal cancer patients (n=46 n=15, respectively) undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Breast were receiving a 5-fluorouracil/epirubicin/cyclophosphamide (FEC) regimen (6 cycles), either an oxaliplatin/5-fluorouracil/folinic acid (FOLFOX) (12 cycles) or 5-fluorouracil/folinic (Mayo) cycles). Patients had Blastocystis hominis microsporidia that only present during the intermediate cycles. Thus, should be screened repeatedly for parasites, namely B. microsporidia, they reduce efficacy of treatments.
