Bridging the gap: A conceptual model of the access of digital libraries

摘要: This paper proposes a general conceptual model for the access of digital libraries based on relevant research in information retrieval, seeking and foraging, activity based design theory. The authors reveal that gap exists current library design practices which is disconnected from its targeted user community. Search engines have disintermediated many interfaces their related evaluation and usability efforts. Many are losing users since learned how to use search engines open Web content collective knowledge wider mass instead a specific library. Accordingly promote marketing orientation library design argue we should sell users’ familiar information environment.
