摘要: Abstract Historical processes leading to the emergence of marine stocks, mechanisms maintaining stock structure, and present-day connectivity patterns are elementary pieces information design wiser more sustainable management resources, understand speciation in sea. Over geographical scales, biological genetic continuity Southern Pacific coast is determined by historical geological-climate events (e.g., LGM), as well present oceanographic (Humboldt Current, ENSO others) that can affect both, local adaptation dispersal. The relative influence such on current distribution species be comprehensibly inferred from a detailed population sampling comprising whole range. In this work, we aimed provide insights into modern between stocks intertidal mussel Perumytilus purpuratus , reported have moderate pelagic development times about 14–18 days. To end, analyzed pattern variation microsatellite polymorphisms across 17 localities scattered along ca. 4500 km off Chilean Coast encompassing four biogeographic regions, previously defined based compositional changes flora fauna, which coincide with large topography, glaciation, circulation upwelling variability around 26°S, 30°S 40°S. Genetic structural data suggest geological climatic shaped actual range south-eastern Pacific, creating biogeographical limits, i.e., north-central southern stock, restricted dispersers cannot cross given day coastal processes. Conversely, IBD observed within those two major regions suggests modulate effective dispersal species.
