Mediterranean diet and age with respect to overall survival in institutionalized, nonsmoking elderly people

摘要: Background: In studies from Italy and Greece, a Mediterranean dietary pattern was shown to favorably affect life expectancy in the elderly population. This is thought reduce risk of cancer addition being cardioprotective. Objective: The objective this study evaluate interactive effects diet age with respect survival after controlling for several other variables that could be considered as confounders: age, sex, body mass index, albumin concentration, physical activity, self-assessment health, dieting response chronic conditions. Design: cohort involving 161 nonsmoking subjects (74 aged <80 y 87 ≥80 y) living Spain. were followed up ≥9 y. Diet assessed semiquantitative food-frequency questionnaire. Results: A score based on 8 characteristics traditional region associated significant reduction overall mortality but not unit increase predicted 31% (95% CI: 7%, 57%). Conclusion: Efforts promote adherence appear worthwhile persons y, whom predicts survival, we do have any available evidence such benefits
