摘要: We analysed the spatial distribution of Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) and its relationship with habitat attributes agro-ecosystems in north-western Italy. used generalised linear models to analyse between occurrence cottontail a series landscape-level variables. Hierarchical partitioning was estimate independent contribution these Our analysis showed that is typically lowland species, it selected municipalities below 400 m a.s.l. avoided higher elevations. Cottontails were more likely occur where edges meadows crop fields higher. This might indicate importance herbaceous habitats feeding behaviour also significance edge vegetation providing cover. In addition, extent hydrographic network positively affected presence, probably due permanent cover associated banks rivers, streams channels otherwise intensively cultivated densely inhabited Po Plain. On other hand, prevalence woodlands, tree plantations large pastures negatively presence. surprising, because usually encourage presence their native range. general, however, cottontails prefer small woodlots utilise only forests, while Italy forests are located hilly mountain areas generally by this species. conclusion, our results confirm an species whose encouraged margins, natural extensive networks riverside vegetation. These characteristics common Plain facilitate further expansion cottontail.
