摘要: Locally absent growth rings are known to occur in trees during periods of environmental stress, but little evidence has been available on their frequency moist temperate forests or potential for causing problems dendroecological studies. In this study, 95 stem disks Acer saccharum cut from representing a wide range size and age were examined ring anomalies using three techniques – inspection partial rings, crossdating each tree against regional master chronologies, use stand history evidence. The number was inversely related rate vigor. Mean percentage 1.3% dominant canopy trees, 4.6% the intermediate crown class, 16.2% overtopped trees. All had missing with mean 10 per 2 20. Use correct appeared be successful 88% However, results inconclusive 32% because low width variability, multiple short duration trouble-free segments. Because limited value reconstructing disturbance often cannot crossdated reliably, we suggest that they normally excluded chronologies.
