摘要: Woodland birds have seriously declined across southern Australian with local extinctions reported in many areas. Dryandra presents a contrasting picture to this decline declining species persisting there. It retains an almost full community of birds, which or disappeared from the surrounding wheatbelt. is 27 000 ha remnant woodland, situated ∼160 km south-east Perth, south-western Australia. Birds were surveyed predominately by professional biologists and/or taken their archives, publications and institutional databases for 55 year period (173 observation years) 1953 2008; 141 detected. Persistence rather than extinction increase dominant paradigms Dryandra. This inverse what has happened greater wheatbelt, located. postulated that Dryandra's persist because habitat relatively unchanged compared Despite 'success stories' some had declined, example, Malleefowl Leipoa ocellata Hooded Robin Melanodryas cucullata. Three judged be locally extinct at Spotted Nightjar Eurostopodus argus, Chestnut Quail-thrush Cinclosoma castanotum Crested Bellbird Oreoica gutturalis.
