Effects of salinity on aerobic metabolism and development of eggs and alevins of steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and fall chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha)

摘要: Metabolic rates, hatching success, alevin survival, time to hatch, and growth were measured for steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fall chinook salmon tshawytscha) embryos incubated in salinities of 0, 4, 8, 12 parts per thousand (ppt) from the eyed stage. rates trout eggs, eggs alevins not significantly affected by tested. The metabolic rate newly hatched alevins, however, was lower 8-ppt, higher 12-ppt, than 0- 4-ppt salinities. Egg hatchability high all four salinities, but both species showed decreased survival smaller 12-ppt salinity. Salinity effects on size greater salmon. results suggest that 8-ppt salinity is upper limit normal development alevins.
