摘要: Abstract Rebuilding of some U.S. West Coast rockfish ( Sebastes spp.) stocks relies heavily on mandatory fishery discard, however the long-term condition discarded fish experiencing capture-related barotrauma is unknown. We conducted two studies designed to evaluate delayed mortality, physical condition, and behavioral competency yelloweye rockfish, ruberrimus , during capture followed by recompression (assisted return depth capture). First, we used sea-cage laboratory holding at 2, 15, 30 days post-capture from 140 150 m depth. All external signs resolved following 2 days recompression, but that survived (10/12) had compromised buoyancy regulation, swim bladder injuries, coelomic visceral hemorrhages both 15 post-capture. For second study, a video-equipped observe behavior for one hour sea floor. Trials were with 24 captured 54 199 m water survived, 50% deepest ranges showed impairment in their ability vertically orient P
