摘要: This article is a methodological note on potential problem with forced-choice response scale in the study of facial expressions emotion. For example, majority subjects categorized Matsumoto and Ekman's (1988) reported expression “anger” as contempt when using one format, disgust, another frustration, third. When shown anger given choice amonganger, other labels, few (12.5% average) selectedanger. Ifcontempt, digust, andfrustration are considered wrong answers, then forced can yield consensus answer; ifanger right answer, fail to answer.
