摘要: For researchers studying mysticere whales few methods for determining gender or collecting biochemical and genetic information from unrestrained animals are available. The objective of this study was to develop a reliable method viable tissue samples establishing continuous cell cultures skin biopsies free-ranging whales. A collect process these is presented. Six seven gray were established in culture. Our results suggest that the viability improved by (1) sterile processing field, (2) minimizing time between collection delivery culture facility, (3) reducing concentration antifungal agent, (4) placing explants under coverslip. While reported paper based on small sample size, we believe if procedures followed, they will increase probability successfully culturing cetacean tissue. Established lines can supply replenishable material identified still living wild. These then be used determination sex karyotypes, assessing relationships cetaceans inherited protein, chromosomal DNA polymorphisms. much needed analytical tools determine familial populational relationships, leading better understanding mating systems, stock identification effective population sizes wild cetaceans.
