摘要: During the winter months Djungarian hamster, Phodopus sungorus, can enter spontaneous daily torpor (SDT) even in presence of abundant food and at thermoneutral ambient temperature. This indicates that is not only a response to energy shortage it has well-known saving function. Here we summarise hallmarks SDT compare characteristics fasting-induced (FIT) P. sungorus. Some obvious differences let us conclude these are two forms hypothermia appear be regulated by different control mechanisms. Additionally, recent evidences suggest SDT, least hamsters, benefits beyond energetic advantages.
