摘要: This first book by James Croll (1821–90), published in 1875, includes many of the original geophysical theories that he had formulated throughout early years his career. A self-educated amateur, obtained work at Glasgow Andersonian Museum, which gave him leisure time to pursue scientific interests. The fluidity disciplines allowed virtually invent field geophysics, and unique insights united ideas previously thought unconnected, such as using physics explore causes glacial epochs, climatic changes circulation temperature ocean currents. Croll, whose Stellar Evolution its Relations Geological Time is also reissued this series, later became a Fellow Royal Society St Andrew's University, but (possibly because non-scientific background) writes style makes works accessible lay readership.
