摘要: In this chapter, the authors present research conducted on GNL Quintero 1 (GNLQ1), a Late Pleistocene paleontological submerged site located Pacific coast of Central Chile (32°46′S). GNLQ1, 650 m offshore and 13 underwater, was discovered test excavated as part Cultural Resource Management (CRM) project. The describe method strategies applied results obtained so far. By combining geological, geomorphological, bathymetrical, sedimentological, data with digital simulation model, they suggest that by c. 16,000 cal BP, significant Bay exposed GNLQ1 would have been several kilometers inland paleoshoreline farther out continental shelf. light new evidence discuss known association between extinct megafauna early human adaptations in area. Despite fact no agency has inferred, similarities faunal assemblage prehistoric sites land are suggestive encourage further research. They conclude provides first unambiguous record can survive situ be through underwater investigation, thus offering insight into paleolandscape viable for occupation transit along Coast South America during Pleistocene.
