摘要: This paper presents findings from a qualitative study which examined cultural learning activities undertaken by sample of 28 backpackers in the Northern Territory and Queensland who sought out engaged with Aboriginal culture as part their independent travels Australia. Although desire to learn about was unanimous, pursued these for that were largely devoid direct encounters people. The reveal interviewed aware could only occur an 'outsider's' perspective. Conversely, 'insider's' perspective recognised primarily achievable through time spent living interacting communities. concludes exploration implications this emerging area volunteer tourism has been promoted vehicle accessing deeper opportunities. These contribute research on engagement indigenous cultures, growth alternative forms provide young people opportunities cross‐cultural encounters.
