摘要: Chemical composition of the hydrodistilled essential oil Thymus vulgaris L. (thyme) from Montenegro was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and its antimicrobial activity evaluated against 10 microorganisms, including reference clinically isolated strains. T. yield 0.42% (v/w, based on dry leaves weight) whereas analysis showed that major components, amongst 22 identified in oil, were geraniol (25.66%), geranyl-acetate (20.34%), linalool (10.89%) caryophyllene oxide (9.89%). The results tests revealed T .vulgaris has rather strong activity, especially Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli , Candida albicans Klebsiella pneumoniae . These confirm potential use food products as well for therapeutic applications.
