摘要: Objective : To describe the pattern of surgical admissions to Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital and in particular epidemiologic characteristics trauma admissions. Design Retrospective study (1st January 1998 – 31st December 1999). Setting Hospital, Nakuru. Subjects All patients admitted various wards (excluding eye-patients) during stated period whose medical records were available complete. Methods Medical (files) all retrieved using admission data from casualty, out-patient Annex registers. Further was obtained registers, nurses report books theatre radiology books. A special data-form used collect required information. The subjected simple statistical analysis. Results There 5907 whom 3411 cases seventy three point five percent admissions, 1499 (25.4%) non-traumatic emergency 997 (16.8%) elective 73.5% males 57.6% 21-60 year age-group. most common injuries soft-tissue injuries, fractures, burn head while leading causes road traffic accidents (32.7%), assaults (23.8%), falls (15.5%) burns (13%). Fifty one seven performed operations trauma-related. mean length hospital stay for 10.4 days. Trauma cause death (6.6%) among Conclusion Trauma, particularly due violence is a growing public health problem this region that urgently calls specific intervention measures. studies disability levels as well costs care are recommended.
