摘要: An optical fiber embedded between layers of structural fibers in a composite deforms together with structure and modulates light passing through the fiber. This effect has been implemented form so-called "smart skins". By analyzing changes transmitted by an dangerous strain levels as well failure material can be detected. A system such sensors could act nervous this structure. Several important questions must answered before concept embedding commercialized. How does presence affect its mechanical performance? distribution vicinity? What is relationship layup surrounding composite? done to prevent negative effects introduction extra into structure? work addresses some these questions. Preliminary results experimental tests performed on representative specimens are presented. discussion plans for future provided.
