摘要: Objective This study examined the diagnostic and clinical features of deaf psychiatric inpatients. Methods Archival data for hard-of-hearing adults (N=30) were compared with a random sample hearing (N=60) admitted to state hospital from 1998 2008. Results Significant differences found between inpatient groups in frequency impulse control disorders (23% versus 2%), pervasive developmental (10% 0%), substance use (20% 45%), mild mental retardation (33% 3%), personality (17% 43%). The group had larger proportion diagnoses psychotic disorder not otherwise specified 2%). Deaf inpatients longer hospitalizations than (17 months ten months). Conclusions Clinicians working underserved, understudied population should be aware cultural linguistic assessment treatment make efforts modify their approach.
