摘要: Summary Background Near-fatal asthma (NFA) is characterized by severe attacks usually requiring intensive care unit admission. This phenotype of has been studied mainly in acute conditions. Methods The aim our study was to compare the clinical, functional and inflammatory characteristics NFA patients with mild asthmatics stable conditions. We recruited 155 asthmatic from five centres European Network for Understanding Mechanisms Severe Asthma: 67 mild-to-moderate controlled low/medium doses inhaled corticosteroids; 64 that, despite treatment high corticosteroids, long-acting β2-agonists 1/3 also regular oral had at least one exacerbation previous year; 24 an episode 5 years absence inclusion criteria groups. All were examined conditions. Results taking less corticosteroids compliant prescribed medications than other two groups patients. Lung function, blood gases, atopic status, sputum cell count similar mild-to-moderate, but not severe, patients. Conclusions In conditions attack cannot be distinguished asthma, while they are different both terms lung function airway inflammation. risk factor that characterizes this group reduced usage prophylactic corticosteroids.
